Challenge
The Contra Costa Water District desired a design for the Los Vaqueros
Site Operations Building that fit the surroundings as the
keystone entryway to a multi-building environmental campus. A key requirement
of the client was to maximize natural lighting of conference and wildlife
display areas. Because of the remote location, the site also required
a re-design of both PG&E and Pacific Bell services.
Solution
Because the campus is located within an environmentally
sensitive area, W.E. Lyons design-build team minimized site laydown
areas. Through careful civil design, soils movement was altogether eliminated.
Special attention to site orientation and the utlization of skylights
and windows in the building design affords generous natural lighting.
Close coordination with PG&E and Pacific Bell enabled remote delivery
of services to the site in less than 60 days. The building was turned
over to the owner two weeks prior to the scheduled completion date.
Upon completion of the building, W.E. Lyons was contracted to perform
additional design-build landscaping, roadway, parking lot, and ADA compliant
pedestiran circulation.
Highlights
- Design-build services for a 4,000 square foot interpretive center
and office building centered in a remote wildlife
preserve
- HVAC design requirements that incorporated limited available utilities
- Landscape improvements compatible with the native environment
