Challenge

The new 6,000 square foot Crane Maintenance Building serves as administration offices and a shop facility for maintenance personnel associated with the Port of Oakland cranes. The project required compliance with The Port of Oakland Social Justice
Program and site specific project labor agreements. Access to the site proved difficult, due to the nature of an open port. There were added safety issues because the bulding construction site is in close proximity to shipping traffic and working cranes.
Vehicular access was also difficult.

Solution

The W.E. Lyons project team worked closely with the Port of
Oakland Social Justice Program during the design phase, to
assure all requirements were addressed. A safety team
consisting of personnel from W.E. Lyons, all subcontractors, and the Port of Oakland personnel developed a site safety plan to address building safety issues, and to develop a vehicular
traffic plan.
