Challenge

The City of Hayward required an apparatus building as part of a new fire station that was under construction during one of the worst winters in the last 50 years. The City was self-contracting the project. The fast-track project required careful scheduling and coordinating around the other trades at work on the station.

Solution

By choosing a pre-engineered metal building system, W.E. Lyons Construction was able to provide structural building and footing designs within two weeks. The heavy rains had a minimal effect on the project schedule because of the choice of materials. W.E. Lyons was the first prime contractor finished and off the job, which allowed the City to move the engine company into the apparatus building ahead of schedule.

  • 3,500 square foot Varco-Pruden metal building system
  • Design-build envelope
