Challenge Maggiora & Ghilotti, an engineering/contracting company, had been operating from the same site for two decades. Expanding needs had turned the 1.2-acre industrial site into a series of portable offices surrounded by cargo containers, makeshift shelters and various pieces of heavy equipment. The client needed to consolidate offices, storage areas and maintenance/repair shops into a single structure, while preserving a large outdoor area to accommodate project staging, specialized equipment and fueling operations. Solution The owner hired W.E. Lyons Construction to design-build the new 18,000 square foot structure. Forsher+Guthrie, an architectural firm in San Rafael, was hired by W.E. Lyons to assist in the design phase. Three rigid-frame Varco-Pruden metal building systems were tied together. The design featured flexible interior work areas to accommodate the wide variety of work Maggiora & Ghilotti undertakes. Highlights
